About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Due to unforeseen circumstances “unchild like” phenomenon with a huge responsibility of being in charge of a household has risen. This social phenomenon presents numerous psycho-socio challenges. The death of psycho-social and economic support amongst adolescent headed household children has been proven to pave way for a cocktail for disasters. The households often • lack adult guidance, • counseling, • protection, • encouragement

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Instead of letting young adults from child headed families be dependent on charity, we want to empower them. Make these young adults embark of a journey of self discovery; understand who they are, who they can be and how they can sustain themselves with their own creations.Through alternative education which includes media production paired with experiential learning Runako’s focus is on empowerment and sustainability through the Art of Humor, based on multimedia process I hear and I cannot forget. I see and I believe. I do and I understand We all have it inside it takes, that is the beauty behind it all .With • Personality development • Networking • Media training-Creativity as a mean of sustainability
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

• These young adults are faced with self sacrifice, emotional turmoil, roles changes at a tender age This self sacrifice is felt by Lindiwe; one would choose to let their sibling attend school while they fend for the family. When asked if she had plans to go back to school considering rather she wanted to send her siblings to school first. Though she has been a “brave soldier” throughout all the challenges she faced and is still facing, she admitted that parental love and advice is something everyone needs, despite how strong they may be .A decent and worthwhile way to fend for the family and be a role model to the siblings

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

By supporting these children’s psychosocial well-being we facilitate a conducive environment for them to explore their own values related to life skills and adolescent reproductive health embedded in media production. A movement designed to equip them as they go through challenges, become creative, intative with relevant 21 century media skills. Therefore the main goal of my solution is empower 20 young adolescents through promoting positive behaviour change, prevent and reduce risk by giving them skills that go beyond education which starts with building the Runako brand and team and the Runako Story book Campaign. Instead of letting young adults from child headed families be dependent on charity, we want to empower them. Make these young adults embark of a journey of self discovery; understand who they are, who they can be and how they can sustain themselves with their own creations

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

A home away from home meeting the emotional, physical and socio-economic development for the children heading their households. As life skills shape their ability to: • Make decisions, solve problems, and think critically and creatively Media and fashion is a powerful means of livelihood with the rampant advancement of technology. In 10 years this project will become Runako centre with three divisions • Training- Life skills training • Business centre -Runako Art and the Design Centre • Entertainment-The beauty is within Gardens for Fashion Shows, film festivals

Founding Story

I left my father in a cold grave, within months of that lost my mother's trust, shunned within my community and betrayed by a man I loved when I found out I was pregnant. I made the decision not to abort but to dive into being a single parent. The next phase in my life was survival mode. It was not easy, l got hurt sexually, psychologically and physically. Even though I was economically balanced, emotionally I was traumatized. I got into school, in my second year a module of Psychosocial support (PSS) came up. As the content of the module unfolded, part of my life seemed to unfold. The walls around me were perpetuated by lack of life skills, yearning to experience love, protection and support. The truth is l wasn’t and I am not the only one
