About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Ecological sustainability has become a keyword when developing modern societies. But despite an increasing focus on sustainable development, reports have shown a decreasing engagement with sustainability among the populations in the western societies, due to the complexity of the term (Selsing 2012:27). Therefore there is a need to make ecological sustainability accessible and increase the overall interest in sustainable development.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Green Current festival’s vision is to elevate the interest and engage the general public in sustainable development by being the most ecological sustainable music and showcase event in Denmark. Our mission is to create a social platform based on sustainable principles, music, interaction and performances, on which the citizens, firms, scientist, students and entrepreneurs meet to generate innovations and learn about sustainable development. The combination between an approach focusing on music, creativity and, playfulness and an approach focusing on entrepreneurship, education and learning creates a new and different context in which the open interaction between the participants leads them to their change of view on sustainable development.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Persona test: Camilla is attending at Green Current Festival 2014. She read about the festival in the music magazine Gaffa. When she and her friends enter the festival they instantly feels a positive energy coming towards them. The creative and aesthetic architecture and the positive atmosphere surrounding Camilla helps her adapt into the context of the festival. The music is good, she likes challenging herself with the interactive installations her fellow students have created and some of the speeches presented by the professors were actually really interesting. After a concert they all attempt in a workshop in making ecological baking. When walking around the festival she is open minded to all the new things and ideas presented to her.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

A week after the festival Camilla is shopping groceries, when she suddenly finds herself buying more ecological products than usually. She reflects on how much she actually learned at the festival, despite being drunk with her friends. The festival provided her with some “hands on” knowledge, which she could implement in her everyday life. Camilla is glad that she attended at the festival and she is actually exited to feel that she can do something for the environment, and she knows that her friends can do the same. Testing like this is, in spite of its fictions, based on thorough field and qualitative studies created by (Selsing 2012, Vagnby 2010, Kiip & Marling 2009) and personal field studies from sustainable living festival in Melbourne. Future testing includes qualitative participatory research such as focus group interviews and prototyping through prevents.
Sustainability

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

In 2014 towards the first festival the organization rely´s manly on ticket sales 1.250.000 DKK, sponsorships 700.000 DKK and partly on food/drink sales, grants, funds and donations. If the Festival yield a profit 300.000 DKK of this profit will be placed in the organizations support fund to secure the festivals financial sustainability further on. Any profit past the 300.000 DKK will be donated to non-profit-organizations engaging sustainability

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Green Current wants to be more than just a festival, by presenting a platform to firms and organizations to demonstrate and preview their new initiatives and recent developments. It is estimated that about 22.000 Danish firms sell at least one green product, such as technology, product or services. This potentially green group represents every five firms in Denmark.
There is a great potential in sustaining and providing a green platform, as Denmark is the country with the best conditions for new firms to attain a sustainable profit.7 The environmental question and the consequences of climate.
