Any Belgian ornithologist will tell you so: Hollogne-sur-Geer is a true paradise for indigenous birds and enthusiastic bird-watchers. The reservoirs of the sedimentation system originate from the beetroot refinery in the country town where 230 species of birds have been listed. When the refinery stopped its activities, this ecosystem was threatened.
The non-profit organization called “Nature Reserve Upper Geer” struggles for its safe-guarding.

As bees are endangered and one third of all food products rely on bees, Hofer and Naturschutzbund jointly started a long-term Bee Protection Fund to support local projects. The focus is on habitat protection, awareness raising and research. In addition, Hofer introduced a strict pesticide monitoring program for its products, established an own apiary and motivated customers to take easy but effective steps for bee-protection.
1; They realized three educative poster packages around forests, water and sustainable development for all 9000 Belgian schools. 2; Good Planet Challenge: 40 socially vulnerable children were given the opportunity to spend 5 days in the nature and with games and adventure learn about sustainable living. In the future, both parties want to focus on two projects around biodiversity. One around the bee, the other via the 5 "GoodPlanet actions"
The first component of the program is involving large number of volunteers and communities in the creation/rehabilitation of green spaces throughout Romania, while it's second component is focusing on the promotion of the protected areas of Romania through local communities' involvement. Both components have demonstrated so far their community mobilizing capacity, fact proven by the over 134.000 people involved in the funded projects.
