Big Island Pond: A Green Approach to Eradicating Variable Milfoil

A group of concerned residents of Big Island Pond formed a non-profit organization dedicated to financing significant initiatives for weed control, and water testing to preserve and protect water quality and habitat, to educate and promote stewardship of these resources and to act as an advocate for sound environmental policies and practices, using a nonchemical approach.

Small Wind Turbine: Local, Renewable Energy Demonstration at Black Rock Forest

We are midway through a permitting process to install a small (200 watt, 12 volt) Air Breeze wind turbine for research, education and demonstration purposes at Black Rock Forest Consortium. The Consortium is an environmental nonprofit organization that maintains a private forest preserve and educates nearly 13,000 visitors a year.

Watershed-to-Ocean Initiative

The Ocean Project has begun a new initiative to develop an interactive on-line watershed-to-ocean visualization through which we expect to develop a process by which anyone can click on a virtual on-line globe to get directed to their ecological address, display the watersheds in their region, learn about their watershed's characteristics, and join local urgent or interesting conservation efforts.

El problema central a ser tratado por el proyecto es el circulo de Violencia familiar y Sexual por medio de la prevención y atención a las Victimas, así como afrontar la pobreza y extrema pobreza en que viven, siendo una de cuyas causas es la presencia círculos de violencia que soportan las mujeres durante muchos años en sus hogares, afectando también a sus menores hijos(as).

El Proyecto inicia y culmina un proceso de desvictimizacion, mediante la ejecución de 5 componentes:

Os três vencedores do Desafio Geoturismo “Comunidade, Cultura e Natureza” receberam seus certificados de vencedores das mãos de John Francis (foto acima, extrema esquerda), vice-presidente para Pesquisa, Conservação e Exploração da National Geographic, e de Charlie Brown (foto, extrema direita), Diretor Executivo do Changemakers da Ashoka, durante o Encontro Global em Geoturismo no dia 2 de fevereiro na sede da National Geographic em Washington, DC.
