12th November, 2017, Toronto: Today, Ashoka and C&A Foundation convene the world’s leading apparel industry innovators to address urgent social and environmental issues facing the industry - a community, convened and supported under the ‘Fabric of Change’ Initiative. 60 innovators, brands, partners and academics will convene to reimagine and co-create the future of the apparel industry, one day before the World Ethical Apparel Roundtable (WEAR).

Launched in 2015, the joint initiative Fabric of Change supports innovators at various stages of development, unlocking the unique power and potential of social entrepreneurs and their solutions to advance a shared vision: transforming the apparel industry into a force for good. Ashoka and C&A Foundation have supported Fabric of Change social entrepreneurs and young innovators with more than $1 million CAD worth of direct funding and pro bono services.

Three new Fabric of Change supported Ashoka Fellows have recently been elected into the global cohort:

Rebecca van Bergen is providing training and increasing visibility for all workers along the supply chain, ensuring that human capital is enriched as artisan production grows.

Ashoka and C&A Foundation will present an expert panel on Labour at the Fashion Takes Action World Ethical Apparel Roundtable (WEAR), here in Toronto on Tuesday 13th November - sharing best practices and presenting innovative solutions to systemic challenges in the apparel and textiles industries.

“Ashoka is thrilled to be part of WEAR and engaging the North American apparel industry in this crucial conversation about how to make our clothes better for the world,” said Stéphanie Schmidt, managing director at Ashoka. “We are proud to be showcasing the work of our Fabric of Change Fellows and other young innovators. They are well-positioned to scale up their innovations and lead the transformation of the industry.”
