About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

• In our country there is no guarantee that people with special needs will be employed, especially those, who have profound disability. • One-time donation is not an effective expedient. More efficient for needy people is to give them rod and they will go fishing by themselves. • Benefactors not always understand in what exactly they are investing.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

• We guarantee an employment first of three people with different kinds of disabilities with gradual increase of their number. • A liability lies not just on donors but also on people with special needs – they learn to take responsibility for their own earnings. • We show to benefactors how they can donate (money or applicable for selling things) with understanding a problem they are solving.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

People have been interested in the project of charity shops from the very beginning. First it was a small group of enthusiast, later information expended among friends and colleagues. How does it work? Everyone can donate goods applicable for sale. Our stores are selling the good stuff, not junk. The assortment of products is the most various: household goods, hand-made, furniture, real estate! We understand that for successful business is not enough just donations, so we will buy popular products for sale. Our special workers, who do not have permanent employment, are involved in the shops’ work at all stages: from receiving to delivery of goods to buyers. The public is briskly interested in the new product and is ready to participate.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

To date we have achievements and confidently move forward. - Work of people with disabilities: we started a workshop for young people with special needs. These people who until recently were sitting at home without work and contact with the outside world are socialized now, want to have a job and live like all of us. In the future each of them, and other interested people (first three persons then 70% of all employees) will have a field of work in the shop (later in the Centre) that feet their skills and desires. - We have developed a strategy, mission and know our values. Therefore, systematically we achieve our goals. We have a team providing Internet - shop, working on branding. We have bought a website that is filling. - Benefactors and donors can support us greatly by having an alternative. We offer a contribution to our cause as social responsibility of their business.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

Within 5 years we plan to create 2 stationary shops and a training center for learning professions: sorter of goods, courier, laundry worker etc. In 10 years we plan a network of 5 such stores situated in Kiev in different districts, and an occupations full-time center for people with profound disabilities. The long-term aim is to create a network all over Ukraine, such as national network «GOOD WILL» in the USA. It is not just huge stores, employing socially vulnerable groups of people; it is a way of changing minds, policies and rules of life in society where we all are different but equal.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

The first step is setting up an Internet shop. According to our calculations, it is profitable. Due to the turnover of goods - the operation of the real store. Proceeds from the store will be spent on salaries, purchase of goods, network development. Thus, will be provided and implemented such points: - establishing of training center for people - step by step creation of a network of shops - establishing of the Centre of daily employment.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Very small number of people with special needs have meaningful life after they are18 years. We want to create a market of services for people with disabilities because we believe that it is a tremendous resource, not involved in the business yet. There are only 4 charity shops in our country: in Kyiv, Odesa, Zaporizhia and Lviv. However, none of them offers employment for disabled people. Very few disable people are working in field of service, being not only their recipients but providers as well. The competitors are also clothes «Second hand», which, however, has no social component.

Founding Story

The story began in 2012 when the Chairman went to USA to participate in program and visited the store «Good Will». It was surprising that the whole community knew about the network, moreover, they were buying everything they need with the feeling of making a noble deed. Principal factors were such: - «Good Will» is a successful business that is lead by NGO itself. - The seriousness of developments, sequence from training of people with special needs to their employment. After returning, we started to think how it would be possible to make start-up putting it into Ukrainian legislation, which is not ready for such kind of business? These thoughts and educational programs led us to the decision to start with a Charity shop business.

Today we have assembled a team with the following parameters: Chairman of NGO, project idea / full time the founder / full time the social pedagogue / full time 3 persons with disabilities Accountant / part-time 2 brand makers / part-time IT technician / part-time We are planning to include marketers, coaches and accompanying persons for the employees and working on the creation of the Board, a deliberative and governing body.

Inclusive Business.

Audience: Who have you identified as your customer/recipient groups and do these groups value your solution for different reasons? How do you engage different customer/recipient groups to deliver your solution?

Direct users are primarily people with disabilities who are full of desire to be in society having a good work and living a full life.
A wide range of people who buy these products that we offer. They need to understand that are buying not only a good product at low prices, but also buying value.
Benefactors and donors - this can be anybody who just bring something good to sell, or some businessman providing support in the framework of corporate social responsibility.

Scaling the solution: How would the prize money and publicity help you to achieve your objectives over the next two years?

It is very important to realize our intentions, but without help, this process will be delayed in time. Winning money will greatly help us to start a real store, to pay rent for it, to buy equipment and popular products, to order advertising, to cover shipping costs.
The publicity is an essential attribute of success. We do not want to be known only in our neighborhood or city; we need to disseminate information to make a difference in a country. People can unite the efforts.
Due to the financial support and work with the proliferation of information, we hope to term of 10 years to achieve our goals: operating Charity stores in different parts of Ukraine and Kyiv, training centers and Centers where people with disabilities could work.

Experience: Please provide examples of any previous entrepreneurial initiatives you have pioneered

Among our successfully implemented initiatives:
- A day care Centre for children with severe disabilities. 35 children receive professional help here, paying 1/3 of the cost of services.
- A workshop for people with disabilities. It deals with 10 young people who make hand-made products and sale it at fairs, events, thus developing their activities.

Great project.

In Slovenia people with disabilities are discriminated in manner of employment. There are only few project that are trying to involve them into working process (one great restaurant in Ljubljana city centre). On the other hand in UK you will see disabled people working in Sainsburys or Tesco on daily basis. And London is full of charity shops, where even fashionistas are purchasing second hand goods.

Initiative is very promising and not that hard to achieve. I believe the biggest challenge will be inviting people to buy in charity shops, since they are not used to them and how to pursuate them that you are not selling junk.

best wishes with the project.
