About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Through this project we are trying to solve two problems. The main problem is the management of garbage disposal and the second problem is the rapid and excessive increase of cars in the main cities of Romania. Both these problems have a devastating effect on the environment because of the massive amount of waste and the emission of smog, and in overpopulated cities, it makes it difficult to travel.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Studying these two issues I noticed that they have a common solution. So I created the first recycling center for bicycles in Romania. By recycling bicycles which are disused we contribute to reducing waste. The bicycles that we recondition are put out for sale at affordable prices. By offering bicycles cheaper than in specialised shops and for a high quality, we popularise riding a bike among people who can not afford to buy a new bike. Also, for people who can afford to allocate a larger budget for purchasing one, we offer customization of collectible bicycles. When people will begin to use bicycles as an alternative method of travel so will the level of smog emission begin to lower and traffic fluidity will increase.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Andrews is a young man of 25 years who over the years has accumulated 4 bicycles. Unfortunately the four bicycles are no longer usable. Right before he throws them away, Andrews discovers the project COBI Bicycles. He goes with the 4 bicycles at the shop. Because they were old, collectible, 3 of them are recycled and he receives a voucher that allows the 4th bicycle to be reconditioned. In this way, not only has Andrews not thrown away four bicycles that would have led to the increasing number of landfills, but he made a bike for himself and also contributed to the reconditioning of the other three, who will reach 3 people who want a bicycle, but one they cannot afford.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

Quantitatively:In the first year we aim to recycle 150 bicycles, 300 in the second year , and 550 in the third year. A bicycle has an average of 13 kilograms, where the result as in the first 3 years we have recycled over 13,000 kg of waste, we will put in use circa 750 bicycles that were on their way to the scrap collection and will create about 150 pieces of furniture from the bicycle parts which are damaged in a greater proportion of 50%. Qualitatively:Over the next 3 years the life of community members, in which COBI Bicycles will activate their objectives, will improve. Having fewer cars on the road people will be able to get to work easier, the quantities of emissions of smog will be shorter, and people will be able to breathe cleaner air, noise pollution will also be reduced.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

Our impact in 5 years: 150+300+550*3=2000 recycled bicycles 2000 bicycles*13 kilograms=26000 kg of waste 75 % out of 2000 bicycles are going to be restore and with the rest of 25% we'will be usig in recycling workshops.
Sustainability

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Money we need: 3 salary *250 euro*12=9000 euro/year 550 bicycles*10 euro (value of voucher)=5500 euro/year 550 bicycles*20 euro(for the componets that are mised on a bicycle to restore it)=11000 euro/year Total: 25500 euro/year Income: 550 bicycles*100 euro=55000 euro/year

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

People aged between 20 and 50 years of age who live in urban areas, men and women with middle income, who are passionate about riding a bike and promote a healthy lifestyle. Also, the project COBI Bicycles is aimed at people currently using as their own car as a main means of transport -the project's goal is that, in the end, to make a change in their behaviour, and mentality to determine them to tackle another means of transport that is healthy and practical, namely: cycling.

Founding Story

The project idea arose on the day my father took out an old bike in store to send it to scrap metal. As we waited for the car that got rid of useless objects,my dad told me a few of the adventures he has had on the bike.He had cycled 20 miles a day for 20 years and the bicycle, now rusted and defeated, had been a mute witness of so many important moments in his life. The bike was an autobiography of my father, was his diary, and I find myself in front of a precious opportunity to rewrite the story begun decades ago, bringing it up nowadays and preparing it,why not for the future. That was the moment when I said to myself:this bike is not supposed to die. They are the glue of generations, the past and present, of objects that skim pages of history.
