Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

The development and installation of a sea water air conditioning system in Melbourne – The low-carbon technology lowers building cooling costs by using cold ocean water. The process involved pumping cold sea water from offshore depth that will go through heat-exchange at a cooling facility.

What if we could enhance our energy savings while minimizing our eco-footprint on our environement?
About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

During summer, Melbourne electricity market experiences high demand especially in hot days. Since 1994, the most popular system of cooling in Australia has increasingly been reverse cycle/heat pump air conditioning (61% in 2008, up from 50% in 1994). In Victoria, and similarly across the nation, the proportion of air conditioning use has almost doubled from 1994-2008. (ABS 2008) What has been done to reduce our environmental impact?

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

The Deep Ocean Water Application Melbourne project is a start up idea that aims at addressing several issues while minimizing our ecofootprint on the environment. The solution is based on 3 stages that we aim at successfully implementing: -It will comprise the construction and operation of a system to pump cold water from the off shore of the city for use in air conditioning systems in buildings located in the country’s city, Melbourne as well as nearby regions. -It will minimize the use of fossil fuels used nowadays in order to generate electricity.(As well as relative proportion of pollutants emitted during the combustion of fossil fuels.) -It will lead to the implementation of Eco-Melbourne Program, idea to promote sustainability.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

The Melbourne CBD has experienced several key developments in the past years. Being ranked among the most liveable cities in the world, the concept of how to constantly improve has been a key role in order to achieve so. With new environmental friendly buildings, Eco-friendly designs and sustainable ideas to make a better living place, constant improvements has lead to what we know as citizens of Melbourne. Today I believed that we can go one step further into the development of a more advanced sustainable city with the introduction of the SEM- Sustainable Energy for Melbourne. The idea of such concept will initiate a new society of responsible individuals aiming at reducing their environmental impact and helping to strive a greener place.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

FACTS: -The project will lead in the idea generation of more sustainable designs to make Melbourne the top liveable city in the world, as well as most environmentally friendly city. (The concept will lead to more idea generation of sustainable designs.) -The introduction of the project will lead to a reduction in CO2 emission per year, based on the decrease consumption of fossil fuels used in the conversion of electricity. -A reduction in government expenditure based on less imports of fossil fuels, therefore raising our GDP. (GDP= C+I+G+ (Exports-Imports) As a result we will be able to identify ways in which significant cost, energy and carbon savings could be delivered, while also creating jobs and new business venture opportunities for citizens.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

OUR VISION IS TO BE ABLE TO CREATE: -Political vision for a better place -A durable fund for our society -Increase support from multilateral institutions that look to a bright greener environment. -A development of sustainable designs in the country itself as well as others who will be reluctant to improve theirs as well. -A reduction in green house gases as well as impacts on the World itself.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Start up costs: The initial budget of SEM to be initialized includes the costs of business start-up, project implementation plan, feasibility test and costs associated to Government related implementation fees. Once project approved: -Costs of drain pipes, construction process, energy transfer station and workers pay considered. Sustainable plan: -Electricity generated to be sold to power station and generate income for SEM.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Our solution is to lead to a huge reduction in carbon emission in the city of Melbourne as well as dependence on fossil fuel per year. By integrating our concept, we will be able to create the 'Melbourne Sustainable Community' that will try and enhance the energy saving in the city itself and be able to educate its fellow civilians. We will also be able to create partnerships with Sustainable Melbourne and lead to a greener environment. Link:

Audience: Who have you identified as your customer/recipient groups and do these groups value your solution for different reasons? How do you engage different customer/recipient groups to deliver your solution?

The concept of tTalking about audience identified as a customer or recipient would be targeting a micro-environment implemented innovation.
Today, SEM-(Sustainable Energy for Melbourne) aims at targeting is the macro environment, the bigger scale picture. We are aiming at the CBD itself, where most business related activities are achieved. With an increase in employment, SEM is forecasting a raise in businesses start-up, meaning a raise in electricity demand.

Scaling the solution: How would the prize money and publicity help you to achieve your objectives over the next two years?

The prize money will help me achieve a sustainable design for the city of Melbourne itself as well as educating younger individuals to the causes of pollution and its effects on the environment. My challenge will be to minimize this problem by seeking better education and opportunities that may arise.
It will also help me achieve higher studies as an individual and seek to inspire others to achieve what I did as an individual.
