Applications of smart phone to motivate and encourage tourists to be an active tourist which will directly support local communities and help people to save their way of living by providing their own skills, promote sustainable development, share idea, and match their interests with local problems.

About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Chiangmai city has been welcoming about 3 million tourist a year. And there are no proper guideline or management system for tourist activities in Chiangmai. And most of tourism profit has no directly return to benefit local community which being a key factor to make the old town to be lively and charming. In someway this tourism activities has been harming the charming and way of living of locals in Chiangmai.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

To produce smart phone's application in which once tourist arrive to Chiangmai this application will show on their smart phone to be downloaded with 2 USD. This smart phone will give a basic concerns for tourist to live in Chiangmai with respectful and realize carrying capacity of city. This application also motivate tourist to be a active part of sustainable development for the city, likes support local communities in term of economic, share an idea of development, providing technical skill which useful for people by matching idea with real demand. More over this application will help the policy maker to reshape development and tourism plan in which getting real feedback from tourist, instead of trying to pleasure tourist.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Let say, If tourist can realize the water resource they are using while pleasure staying for a week in Chiangmai may deduce the same water resource that will go to paddy field. And this same amount of water will run through sewage line which sewage system of municipality could not cope with. The tourist will be more concern and curious how they could help. So this application will also giving the channel and platform that they can contribute back in active way and directly to local community by their own interest; like reduce the water usage, share the this concern to others, leave a message to city mayor, support local product or make a trip to local communities.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

Turning the challenge of managing the huge number of tourist, to be a possibility to make better community and city in creative and active way. Nowadays there are 3 million tourist a year, what if half of them being part of this application network, and share the other millions which will come to visit in the future. This cycle of friend using this application will be link up in bigger platform to make a big change by being good and active tourist. Starting from practical action to reach to policy change in tourism management with minimum budget from local office and related departments.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

To sell this application about 2 USD, this amount will use for maintaining and updating an application system. And there are no new investment for gathering information or research since this project will join and enhance to existing program called "Chiangmai Revitalization Program" in which we have been doing for 2 years.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

There are no organizations doing like this way. There are 2 groups that may consider. First is the tourism office in which their concern is just to give the information about tourism spots, where to go, where to shop & drink. And the second is the local business company doing to their own business, like eco-tour, home staying. None of them concerning the community's way of living, carrying capacity of city to cope with huge number of tourist per year in which become a huge income for city.
