About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Today, 90% of our local households are growing banana for subsistence. But this crop has the potential to improve those banana farmers livelihood where still 44.9% of the population are below poverty line: (2011 est.). Banana farmers are alike because the don't have enough skills on modern organic mechanics, so they can increase their income and marketability of their products on the local and international market as well as increasing the GDP.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

My company propose to create a network where banana farmer will share about skills, market information and new opportunity through the partnerships between individuals and institutions in the agribusiness. As the organic banana is one of the opportunities offering good price on banana, we plan to produce high standard organic banana and promote the post harvest treatment so we can export our production to the western. The second opportunity is on our local market where the urbanization rate is up to 18% and the annual growth rate of the urban population of 4.5%, which makes a lot of population to supply.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Most of other business like this are in the informal sector selling conventional cooking and dessert banana, but my differences are seen into professionalism, social implication, so we can improve our community by not targeting our own profit but also including knowledge sharing between workmates in the agribusiness. The big difference is also about the quality of our products, where we are producing high standard organic banana while other are still doing the conventional with also archaic mechanics in their production process.
