Insurance for Emergence: IFE
Bamenda, CameroonBuea, Cameroon
Year Founded:
Project Stage:
2015
Organization type:
nonprofit/ngo/citizen sector
Idea
Budget:
$1,000 - $10,000
Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.
The solution will make a difference because it does not only tackle clients who subscribe for policies but the organizations involved as well as the government for their law enforcement.
We interview disgruntled people and those with bad experiences, for those that could we make join the movement. These companies involved in mal practices are being trashed talk by us and blogged about so that other companies who would obviously want to guide their image will adjust their miss did
. Equally we will have lawyer very much familiar with insurance law to back up our issues using the law or lack of law. This is quite different because the movement will equally have street display which is not common relating to address insurance issue.
Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.
It all began by enlightening interested persons on the movement and then we established and in cooperated IFE. We further engaged the people in active participation I activities like filling of questionnaires to get peoples view of insurance, designing of logo and fliers for the movement, preparation of talks and workshops and coming up with innovative ways to sensitize the general public, site blogging to address the issue, frequently writing Cameroon
Calling for a responsive change or measures for improvement.
The projected future impact will be to create a forum for which insurers will come together to form a uniform goal, to create a uniform action to boost the sale and efficient practice of insurance business.
Lobby for a change where the population is conscious of the need of insurance and without resistance sign up for policies
Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?
from the partnership we are going to obtain contacts that could link us to insurance companies and the big guns operating which would enable us to create workshops and through this we will show them what we have done so far, sensitize them on the need to become transparent, telling them about the advantages and the multiplier effect. This is a system to bring together differences so as to create uniformity. The multiplier effect is if they work with us, they will have more subscribers/ customers, more profit and it all culminates into benefits for the economy as a whole.
Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?
The movement will mostly apply for grants or funding when need arises or depend on self-contributions form members for the success of the team. We will equally organize community walk and screen presentations to raise funds while portraying what we do.
Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?
There are organizations both within and without Cameroon whose mission is to influence people for change and to stop ill practicing. Other organizations like Community initiative for sustainable development that has slightly the same aim as IFE. OHADA and CIMA are the controlling bodies of insurance.
IFE is different in that we created a movement that actively addresses insurance issues pointing them out and let our voices be heard through social media radio and organizing seminars for the need and education of insurance and the relevance of it being better.
Founding Story
Coming from Cameroon which is a less economically developed country and equally an insurance student. I know the needs of the people as concern insurance how it is very vital for them given the lot of risk that surround people that needs to be safeguarded against. Also during my work experience I noticed how the insurance business enrich themselves a lot and sometimes boycott claims leaving the families in need stranded . Not forgetting how premiums are very high and unaffordable. Also, health insurance is almost non existent in CAMEROON. Generally it falls on family members to meet the cost of traetment this often leaves families with huge debts and worsened financial burdens to bear.
Team
Currently there are 35 people who have subscribed to be full members of the movement and a hand full of people that are general supporters and fan of the movement. The real acting leader are 7 in number.
