About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

This project is trying to address the problem of mothers failing to deliver in their different work places because they are worried about the safety of their 3months old babies. It is also trying to address the issue of mothers failing to go back to work or quitting their jobs because they cannot trust anyone with their babies hence women lagging behind in development because of their motherly duties.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Learning nest is the solution, this will be a home away from home where mothers can leave their babies without worrying about anything because there will be all the facilities needed for the comfort of the baby as well an enough nanny's that are qualified to take proper care of the babies. At the end of the day each parent will be given a days report about how their baby.

Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

When the mothers have a safe trusted place to live their babies, then we will see more women in development. It has been noticed that when women return from maternity leave which in Uganda is 3 months. They concentrate less at work because they are not confident with where they have left their babies. It there is a safe place they can leave their babies, then they can be productive, this is what the learning nest is offering, a secure place where a mother will live their baby and focus on work without worrying about the baby.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

In future we hope to see many more learning nest branches around the city where even parents can drop by and breast fed their babies or where even we can take the baby to the mother in her place of work to breast feed her baby. With this then many women will be able to focus on work and develop as well as secure the lives of their babies.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

Our main strategies are to spread our wings to reach all divisions in Kampala meaning easy accessibility of leaning center to the parents. We want to see a situation where the parents are productive and comfortable at their work places because they are confident of where they have left their

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Learning Nest will be financially stable because of its nature of operation. It will mainly be funded by clients who bring in their babies, and the fact that we are planning a high quality center we will be able to attract different people who will be willing to pay for the safety of their children. We also plan to look for partnerships especially with corporate companies since that's where most women work.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

There are other people running day care center but learning nest is a unique one because it will have the best facilities that satisfies the comfort of a mother. Each three babies will be allocated a nanny and we will be giving a days report to the parent. Our main aim is to also help the babies hit different mile storms and to make them have fun at work.

Founding Story

The founder is a mother of twins who had to quite her job after her 3months leave because failed to get a day center she could trust her children with, even when she got a nanny, she quite after two days because she said she could not handle taking care of two babies. So she had to chose between her career and the babies. She did not work for a full year because she had to take care of the babies. This has inspired her to think of setting up a day care where every mother will come and not think twice about living their baby with us.

The learning nest hopes to have enough qualifies nanny's to take care of the babies, a ratio of 1:3 babies. The nest will have a pediatrician on call, a full time nurse, a part time nutritionist, full time cooks,a full time driver as well as full time cleaners and an administrato
