About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Nowadays,Owning a house is a luxury, it becomes a once-in-a-lifetime investment for people on a tight budget.. Some choose to buy a house with a high priced mortgage loan, or they may go for renting one. The problem becomes more serious when it comes to people in disadvantageous situation who are ran out from options to get a decent shelter.. so either they prefer to sacrifice their dignity and live in shanty town, or they stay homeless.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Our docks are full with unused and discarded shipping containers just sitting on taking up space. They might look like rusty pieces of steel for ordinary people, but we see them as an almost ready opportunity to become a HOME, even an office, a school in rural areas, an emergency shelter for refugees and natural disasters victims...and We are certain that this innovative solution is will be quite effective and adaptable to our African countries, especially those who has a serious problem of homeless people and shanty towns. With few structural changes, recyclable materiel , ordinary precautions and some experienced workers, this piece of steel is a fine hope for a decent shelter, low-cost, easy constructed and above a green building.

Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

We have many households who still live in shanty towns. Let's just take one made up from five persons. These persons are literally living under a rusty piece of metal, with no electricity, no drinking water and above all, the place they live in is far from being a decent shelter who gather 5 human lives. This kind of households do not receive a stable revenue and automatically far enough to afford buying or even renting a house. We have also to mention that 5 persons are living in unsanitary environment full of different kinds of pollution. SHELTAINR is their perfect proposition that matches perfectly the needs of this family by offering them all services that a normal house provides.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

Social Impacts : - Saving hundreds of households from shanty towns (We're talking about almost 10,000 person) who live in terrible conditions without even the minimum requirement of a decent living by providing them a warm, low-cost, green houses. - Giving homeless people a chance to get a decent house to live in. Economic Impacts : - Introducing a low-cost alternative for conventional houses and creating a certain competition that will impact positively the flagrant habitation prices. Environmental Impacts : - SHELTAINR is an innovative solution based on recycling unused shipping containers. - Creating a new culture of using recycling as an alternative solution to infrastructural problems. - With Reducing the number of shanty towns, a source of pollution is totally eradicated.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

We believe that this project must be handled by a start-up which is based on social entrepreneurial spirit, and its goal is not only material gain but before all developing an optimistic way to make the Moroccan society's daily life safer and easier. In five years, we expect a large activity in two of the main cities of Morocco who hold more than 60% of the number of shanty towns : Rabat, Casablanca. After fulfilling this mission by reducing more than 50% of these towns, we will focus on the rest of the cities and making another proposition more adapted to rural regions conditions.
Sustainability

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

First of all we need a full cooperation and support for the national and local authorities in organization, administrative procedures, field arrangements. To ensure this initiative's financial sustainability, the revenues generated from selling SHELTENAIR's houses we'll ensure the continuity of the project, and also partnerships will be very helpful.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

The marketplace is almost monopolized with one type of offer : conventional houses, such economic-grade flats, social habitations etc.. and most of low-class and some of medium class households can't afford their prices. We're talking about a huge monopoly bubble in Morocco.

Founding Story

Shanty towns, Homeless people and the flagrant prices of houses are factors that incite every patriot citizen to think about an urgent solution to this explosive problem. The sad news is only few people who care or aware enough of this serious issue, and even if they do, most of them don’t complete the process until thinking about an exit from this dead-end alley. Inspired form the idea of modular houses and seduced by the principle of recycling unused containers into green, eco-friendly and habitable buildings, I could formulate an pertinent, innovative ad feasible solution proposition that will help in getting rid of one of the most ferocious Morocco’s infrastructural issues.
