We are developing 'Soka', a reliable football platform currently as an android mobile application giving you quick updates, news, statistics and live coverage of all matches across Africa. Soka also targets at building organized database of African football statistics and digitize the local ticketing systems.

Soka brings local football fans together to allowing them have day to day information and stats on local teams and leagues.Through Soka they can follow matches LIVE, get Access to news and updates and Videos form various football events across Tanzania(for now). This is the best for anyone interested to get engaged to local African football.

With less than a year of operation, it has been more of enhancing football fan experience on African Sports. We are looking at Soka as a company to revolutonize the football in Africa. Our main target is to impact the local ticketing Systems and work with local teams and authorities to develop technologies that will enhance their day to day operations and hence get rid with the local systems which has proven being barrier for growth of African football.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

* Media Partner - We are targeting local sports media to establish partnership to support our platform in promotion and some contents. *Social Networks - We use facebook, twitter and Instagram to reach out to more people/fans. * Telecommunication Mobile Operators - We are also at having one of the telecom mobile operators on board for partnerships that will enable us deliver SMS services to users who dont have access to internet.

* Ticketing - Partnering with the respective football authorities and share profits from tickets sold via our platform *Advertising - We sell advertising space for corporate companies who wish to reach out to our users *Sponsorship - Provide sponsorship opportunity for companies to sponsor some parts of the app or the app itself as whole.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Currently most of the fans rely on local means to get access to football statistics and games. These include radio and newspaper. Unlike these Soka is digital, you can access it at any time, anywhere and at low cost. Also there are some famous blog sports covering some local football stats. Taking advantage of rapid smartphone penetration in Africa, Soka is in advantage to come over most of the local blogs. On ticketing, currently the tickets are physically sold via official stations, through Soka football fans will be able to book for tickets convinietly at any time and wherever they are.

Founding Story

The team is definitely passionate about football. It turned out that every time we discussed football, we were talking about European Leagues and teams. Whenever we thought of local teams, the discussion turned out inactive, mostly because most of us were not informed enough on local football. At our surprise we came to realize that it was not only bothering us but more than 70% of the people who were around us. We then decided to do a simple market research to verify what we thought and get insight of how big is the problem. After we were convinced that it was real problem that can turn out in business that is where we assembled the team officially start building the app.

Team

We are team of 6 tech-entrepreneurs with dynamic backgrounds from Computer Engineering, Business and Mass Communication. We are also working closely with Buni Hub (http://buni.or.tz/) as our business mentors. Buni provides the team with business mentoring and entrepreneurship training. We have been working together for almost a year now with great degree of commitment.
