Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.
My collegue’s daughter Manvi is studying in grade 5 and one day she comes from school and asks her mother that her school is closed for next 3 days because something bad happened to her classmate Nisha. Nisha was not talking to anyone and her mother was crying in school.
Manvi asks her mother “Mumma, Do you know what happened to her? Is she sick? What if the same happens to me?” This made my colleague tensed and stressed that how to tell her daughter about the sexual abuse incident and how to prepare her daughter to prevent from it.
We introduced her to Trust+ app where she communicated to her daughter at the same time on the same phone educating about her body changes like Good touch / bad touch etc. without feeling uncomfortable.
Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.
Trust+ is an app and is still in development phase. The Framework like structure and functionality of this application is now ready but the content is still in development. We have been doing in person interviews and informal walkthrough of real scenarios to extract the practical example, appropriate vocabulary and sustainable solution. Our cofounder who is public health consultant is working on collaboration with national and international institutions like USAID and some Indian NGOs to hire interns to help us in developing the content. We are starting the launch from India itself. These collaborative offers have been very receptive and helpful to date working with Parents, Teachers and NGOs have helped to keep our solution very user sensitive, intuitive practical and sustainable keep future demands in mind.
Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?
The structure content is human-centred and addresses this Social need of missing vocabulary about on sexual health in our society where this topic is social stigma. Trust+ will pitch for its need based acceptance in families via version 1.0 and then to schools and NGOs using version 2.0. The parallel adoption using CSR by corporate firms in cities like Bangalore,Pune,Chennai etc. version 3.0 will help mature audience like sexually active/inactive partners who are at reproductive age.The rapid adoption will allow global organizations USAID, WHO, UNICEF or Global Fund to use it in whole world.
Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?
Trust+ will be initially be free for the end users and will charge them on pay for advanced features for modern cities like Bangalore in India. In low resource settings, we aim to disrupt the market by having the app recommended by World Health bodies like the UN, WHO and even UNICEF. Our revenue will then come from advertisements of services private Hospitals and Support Centres for youths and corporate companies running CSR programs.
Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?
There are few apps which are giving text based content like books on sexual health in which nobody is interested because of lack of time, lack of appropriate language and vocabulary and lack of sensitivity to these topics.
Trust+ is example of disruptive innovation which is trying to break this social stigma attached to sexual health using the in hand technology. Trust+ is helping your kids to communicate to their parents rather what’s on their mind rather than updating it on social media.
Founding Story
I , Shivi Kapil , Design Researcher and Healthcare User Experience Designer, participated for CAMTech Jugadathon 2015 where USAID pitched the grand challenge for Family planning theme. I met my cofounder Anna Schurmann who is Senior Public Health Consultant at the event. I discussed with Anna as she comes with lots of experience in this domain. We clicked immediately and developed the outline of solution for the challenge.
While we were compensating on our 2 sleepless nights at the event, we were announced as Winner of Grand challenge by USAID. We found trust in each other work and capabilities and which gave birth to Trust+ to solve this sensitive issue.
