As an experienced graphic designer specialised in web design I stumble upon compatibility issues because of non-standard technologies daily. At one point I decided to leave behind traditional proprietary designers tools and I switched to Free Software in order to stick with open standards. This made my work much more satisfying and opened my eyes for a wider political and social dimension of technology as an important forming factor of our society. I joined the Fellowship of the Free Software Foundation Europe and became active in the Viennese group of it. A variety of books, talks and discussions on the subject deepened my understanding.
From my voluntary work as an animal rights activist I have collected a lot of practical experience in grassroot campaigning over the years and I employ those skills in freie.it. Most importingly I learned, that transformative change doesn't come from convincing people, but from developing convenient opportunities (and providing good reasons as supportive reassururing framework for keeping at it).
