Founder, Life Out of Plastic (L.O.O.P), a Peruvian social enterprise that since 2011 has been mobilizing volunteers to take action on plastic pollution through cleanup campaigns, financed by the sale of upcycled products. Irene received a BSc in Environmental Sciences from McGill University, Canada and a Masters in Environmental Management from Duke University, USA. She began her professional career in participatory research, focusing on the interaction of vulnerable populations with the environment and its impact on health. She has led two research studies, one with marginalized urban women in Lima and another in indigenous communities of the Peruvian Amazon. Irene served as a member of the UNFCCC-COP20 presidency team in 2014 as the Official Youth and Gender Liaison.

L.O.O.P. is a women led Peruvian social enterprise that raises awareness about plastic pollution by selling recycled PET products and organizing awareness campaigns.

Every single plastic product you have ever used is still present in the environment in some form or other; mostly accumulating as microplastics in our oceans. L.O.O.P. works towards solving plastic pollution in Peru by up-cycling used plastics into products and organizing awareness campaigns.
