Joy is creating a new link amongst youth, between successful graduates and their peers from disadvantaged backgrounds that need support in the final years of high school, in order to significantly improve their matric results and access tertiary education opportunities with an objective of improving their chances of securing meaningful and dignified employment.
IkamvaYouth was created and is run by young people. They provide after school support to learners from grades 8 to 12 and programs for youth preparing for exams. Tutors do not teach, but facilitate students to guide their own learning, identify challenges and pose questions.
IkamvaYouth is a by-youth, for-youth non-profit organisation that enables disadvantaged South African youth to get themselves out of poverty and into university. Its simple but comprehensive model is highly effective, and ensures that learners get the grades, information, skills and support they need to move from secondary to tertiary education.
