I went to the Philippines for 3 months to volunteer after Typhoon Yolanda. Once there, I was in awe of the level of poverty people over there and in all third world countries still live in. I've seen what we consider poverty in America, but it usually just doesn't compare that. After spending some time over there, my belief is that extreme poverty is a symptom of a few other major issues in developing countries, the main one being poor education. I feel like it is my calling to work with others to tackle that issue, while also addressing some of the other social problems and poverty symptoms in the Philippines and then hopefully the world.
