WADI is a measurement device which traces the progress of water disinfection in a PET bottle, therefore showing when the water is drinkable. It is an energy self-efficient and easy-to-use tool in order to make water drinkable. It reliably shows the reduction of bakteria through solar water disinfection. For the first time, a device manages to support the user in a way where SODIS is applied easily without high efforts and costs.

Helioz aims to provide an affordable and efficient solar water disinfection tool for low-income households and humanitarian organizations around the globe. More than one third of the population in developing countries does not have access to any clean water supply. According to the UN, 80% of all illnesses/cases of death are caused by waterborne diseases. Nearly one in five child deaths – about 1.5 million each year – is due to diarrhea. It kills more young children than AIDS, malaria and measles combined.

The target of WADI is to provide an affordable and efficient water disinfection tool for those in need of access to safe drinking water, altogether 2.5 billion people worldwide. WADI facilitates the consumption of clean water in an inexpensive and sustainable way on a household level. It improves health (no water-borne diseases) and environment (solardriven and avoiding CO2 by substituting the boiling of water) and contributes to the Millennium Development Goals and the Human Rights.
