Dr. Nancy L. Markowitz holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles. She is currently Professor of Education in the Department of Elementary Education at San José State University. She designed and directed the SJSU TE Collaborative Residency Program; has been a Carnegie Scholar for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, and founded and serves as Director of the SJSU Collaborative for Reaching and Teaching the Whole Child. She was an elementary school teacher in South Central Los Angeles, a K-8 school administrator, and has taught pre-service and Master’s courses focused on creating effective learning environments in diverse, urban K-8 classrooms. Her scholarly interests include the study of university/district collaboration, pre-service teacher education, and inquiry into practices that integrate social-emotional learning into the preparation of teachers. She has written several articles, a book chapter, and presented at numerous regional, state, national, and international conferences.
