Nhat is a Vietnamese war refugee, who was born in 1980 in a Kuala Lumpur and grew up in Switzerland thanks to the support from the Red Cross. He graduated from HEC Lausanne in Switzerland with a major in Management and Marketing in 2006 and came to Japan in 2007 thanks to a scholarship received from the Swiss Japanese Chamber of Commerce. At the end of the program, he searched for positions in the NPO field but was challenged due to his lack of Japanese command. Eventually, destiny pushed him into other directions and he started working in the Web sector at Wizcorp, a web technology venture in 2008. While working there, he started connecting the dots between his interest in supporting NPOs with technology and started ikifu.org, a new crowdfunding platform using gamification to support Japanese non-profit organizations' online fundraising efforts. In 2010, he received an award from NEC Corporation and in December 2011, he received a 2nd award with the support from the American Ambassador John V. Roos. That same year, he was nominated as a Global Shapers from the World Economic Forum.
