Simon Graffy's passion for ideas and people lead him to co-found Volunteer Uganda during finals. He graduated with a first class science degree. Three years later alongside completing the Teach First leadership development program Simon has lead VU to a staff of twenty, a lodge for eighty people and and has build partnerships with the likes of Teach First and Arsenal FC. He was the creator of Limited Resource Teacher Training (LRTT) an innovative course that has already equipped around 500 teachers make more out of less in the East-African classroom. In 2012 Simon was a winner in the Pan African Awards for entrepreneurship in education across Africa. At 24 years old and in competition with 350+ NGOs across 42 countries this was a great achievement and a fine example to young entrepreneurs.

Challenge Entries

We work in rural south-western Uganda where families live in real poverty. Fertility exceeds 8 children per woman and over 90% of the population live on less than 1 dollar a day. Find out more about where we work.

We have over a 1000 supporters from all over the world; hundreds have been actively involved in our work. We have recruited over 300 volunteers who have taught in over 30 schools, and trained over 500 local teachers.
