Name: Tara Whelan
Tara Whelan is a former director of the Civic Works, currently working as an independent designer in Dublin. Her background ranges across fine art, interactive media, product design, and service & strategic design. Former clients include Dublin City Council, DCC Libraries, The Ageing Well Foundation, The Departments of Health and Agriculture and the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland. She is passionate about helping people to engage in digital fabrication and creative technologies. She is currently working with The Design and Crafts Council of Ireland, and the Harnessing Creativity project, mentoring craftspeople in digital fabrication. In 2015 she will begin a PhD investigating models of community access to making.

A Fab Lab is a place where you can make just about anything.

We're running pop-up Fab Labs in libraries where anyone can learn how to use 3D printers, CNC machines, electronics and coding to solve problems and make new things.

This pilot is the first step towards a full-scale lab in Dublin.
