Ashoka's Youth Venture is an international community of young people who are powerful now, changemakers now. Youth Venture inspires and invest in teams of young people to launch their own sustainable, community-benefiting ventures. Youth Venture then connects them into a global movement of young changemakers who are together redefining the youth years as a time of leadership and positive social change. This is the foundation of an Everyone a Changemaker world--the key factor for success in every part of society.
Youth Venture is pleased to partner with the Study of the U.S. Institute (SUSI) and UCONN's Global Training and Development Institute (GTDI) on the 2014 Student Leaders on Social Entrepreneurship program. Our approach is to assist SUSI participants in identifying the issues that they want to address and then integrating their passion with an idea for change. With Youth Venture's expertise in changemaking, youth development, and social entrepreneurship, the participating student leaders have been equipped with the tools necessary to create change in their respective home nations.
About Student Leaders on Social Entrepreneurship
The five-week Study of the United States Institute for Student Leaders on Social Entrepreneurship provides university student leaders from North and Sub-Sahara Africa and Yemen with a transformative learning experience that deepens their knowledge and understanding of the United States while equipping them with the social entrepreneurial skills to create sustainable solutions to problems in their communities and country.
These programs are designed for participants to:
- learn how to use business techniques and entrepreneurial skills to address global challenges,
- develop their leadership and collective problem-solving skills and learn how to creatively apply these skills, and
- deepen their understanding of the United States by exploring the principles of democracy and fundamental American values such as individual rights, freedom of expression, pluralism and tolerance, and volunteerism.
This 2014 SUSI for Student Leaders on Social Entrepreneurship is being hosted by the University of Connecticut (UConn) and will be developed and delivered by the university’s Global Training and Development Institute (GTDI). GTDI has educated more than 9,000 individuals from 130 countries over the last 30 years.
