Growth (We’ve moved past the very first activities and are beginning to have consistent weekly or monthly impact)
Founding Story: What was the spark that led you to start your project? What was the "Aha!" moment that led you to get started and see the potential for this to succeed?
I remember when my sister and her friend both applied to the same MSc programme in the United States. What surprised me was that my sister graduated with a Second Class Upper, while her friend graduated with a First Class and was the best graduating student in her faculty. On paper, I would have expected the First Class student to have the stronger application. But both were admitted, and only my sister received a fully funded scholarship. I became curious about why. When I looked closely at their profiles, I noticed something that changed how I understood opportunities. My sister’s CV showed more than academic performance: she had research experience, internships, fellowships, leadership experiences and, most importantly, a clear direction for her career. Her friend had exceptional grades, but had very little evidence beyond academic achievement. That was my “aha!” moment. I realized that being a brilliant student is not always enough. Students also need practical skills, career clarity, mentorship, leadership experience, and access to opportunities that help them communicate their potential beyond their grades. I started The Student Growth Hub because I did not want students to discover this lesson only after losing an opportunity. I wanted to create a platform where students could grow beyond grades, gain the exposure they need, and access opportunities.
The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve? Why does it matter to you and your community?
The problem I am trying to solve is the gap between students’ academic potential and the practical knowledge, skills, networks and opportunities they need to turn that potential into real possibilities. In my community, I have met many intelligent and ambitious students who work hard in the classroom but have little guidance on what comes next. They may not know how to find scholarships, prepare for internships, build a strong CV, gain relevant experience, develop leadership skills, or communicate their abilities beyond their grades. Meanwhile, students who have access to mentors, information and supportive networks often have a significant advantage. This matters to me because I first recognized this gap through my sister and her friend’s MSc applications in the United States. Seeing a student with a lower class of degree receive a fully funded scholarship because her profile demonstrated research, leadership, experience and career direction changed how I understood what opportunities really reward. I realized that the problem is not a lack of talent. Too often, it is a lack of access, exposure and preparation. When students lose opportunities simply because they did not know they existed or did not know how to position themselves for them, the impact extends beyond one missed scholarship or internship. It can shape their confidence, career choices and future.
Your Solution: How are you solving this problem? Share your specific solution.
The Student Growth Hub tackles this problem by creating practical pathways for students to grow beyond grades, access opportunities, and develop the skills and confidence to pursue them. One key initiative is the Growth Beyond Grades Initiative, a six-week programme delivered in partnership with Reboot Wellbeing and Empowerment Foundation. We brought together 30 students from five countries: Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Bolivia, for practical learning in career development, leadership, personal growth and opportunity readiness. Rather than simply telling students about opportunities, we help them build the capacity to pursue them. We also take this work directly to students through physical school and University of Abuja outreaches and online webinars focused on leadership, problem-solving, career clarity and changemaking. Through four physical sessions, we reached over 2,700 students and children combined. About 87.2% of respondents to our impact reports described the sessions as life-changing, particularly in helping them see themselves as changemakers. Many participants also joined our community for continued support. Our communities make opportunities more accessible. Our WhatsApp community reaches over 1,500 students across eight countries, where we share scholarships, internships, fellowships and competitions. Our LinkedIn page reaches over 16,000 followers across 37 countries. I have also co-founded EULAIQ, an AI-powered learning platform that transforms complex learning materials into simpler explanations and visual resources, helping students understand rather than simply memorise. Together, these approaches help students discover their potential, build relevant skills, access opportunities and turn potential into meaningful outcomes.
Impact: How has your project created impact / made a difference so far? Or, if at an early stage, what will impact look like?
The Student Growth Hub addresses a gap I have observed: many capable students and graduates have good grades but limited practical skills, experience, networks or knowledge of opportunities. I created The Student Growth Hub to help students grow beyond grades through three pillars: Academic Excellence, Career Readiness and Access to Opportunities. So far, we have directly impacted over 4,000 students through online and physical training, mentorship, programmes, communities and opportunity sharing. Our Growth Beyond Grades programme received 140 applications from students across 56 universities. We brought together 30 students from five countries, with 27 completing the programme and participants rating it 9/10 in our impact report. Our impact goes beyond students reached. About 18 community members have gone on to start initiatives addressing social challenges and advancing the SDGs. Through opportunities shared within our community, members have secured 14 scholarships, 29 internships and 46 fellowships. This is the change I want to create: students who use what they learn, the networks they build and opportunities they access to become leaders and create solutions in their communities. The Student Growth Hub is becoming a pipeline from student development to civic leadership, helping young people grow, take action and create change beyond themselves.
Your Innovation: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there? How is your project new or innovative?
What makes The Student Growth Hub different is that we do not treat academic performance, career development and opportunity access as separate problems. We connect them into one pathway. The Hub is built around three pillars: Academic Excellence, Career Readiness and Access to Opportunities. Our model is simple: Academic Excellence + Self Development = Greater Career and Employability Opportunities. Many student programmes focus on one part of this journey, academic tutoring, career advice, mentorship or opportunity sharing. We bring these pieces together so students can move from learning, to developing practical skills, to accessing opportunities where they can apply them, and eventually to creating solutions themselves. We are extending this model through technology and partnerships. As Co-founder of EulaiQ, I am helping build an EdTech platform that uses AI to make difficult coursework easier to understand. Students can upload a PDF and receive a whiteboard-style explanation in simple language. Unlike a traditional summary tool, students can interact with the lesson, ask questions and continue learning. This makes learning more personalised and accessible for both high schoolers and university students. We are also establishing a partnership with Edufurther, an African mentorship platform connecting students with mentors in their course of study or profession. This connects learning and development with people who have already navigated the paths students are preparing to enter. Our innovation is therefore not simply another student programme. We are building a connected pathway from learning to self-development, mentorship, opportunity access and civic action, one that can adapt across universities, education levels and countries.

Your team: What role(s) do your team members play? How do you share leadership with them?
Our 14 person executive team shares responsibility across programmes, partnerships, community and mentorship, communications, curriculum and research, events, finance, student engagement, and technology. I serve as President and Executive Director, providing overall direction and coordinating the team. Samuel Aguchukwu, our Vice President, supports organisational leadership, while directors and officers lead their respective areas. We share leadership by giving team members ownership of decision
What’s Next: What are the next steps you plan to take to grow or strengthen your project over the next year? If your project is still in the idea stage, describe the steps you will take over the next three months to launch or begin developing it.
Over the next year, I plan to grow The Student Growth Hub into a stronger and more structured youth development ecosystem. I will expand our digital and physical programmes, reaching more students with training in career readiness, leadership, employability and opportunity access. I will also strengthen Growth Beyond Grades and develop more practical programmes based on students’ needs. One project I am particularly excited about is our educational comics initiative. We are developing simple, engaging comics for secondary school students, especially those in underserved communities. The comics will cover changemaking, career clarity, leadership and mental health, using stories and relatable characters to help young people understand important ideas in a way that is accessible and easy to remember. I see this as another way of taking quality guidance and learning beyond students who already have access to these resources. I plan to build partnerships with universities, youth organisations, development organisations and private sector partners to create more pathways to mentorship, internships, training and other opportunities. Internally, I will strengthen our executive team and develop more student leaders who can take ownership of programmes and represent the Hub in their communities. This will allow our impact to grow beyond my direct involvement.
How do you encourage other people to join your project or learn about the problem you’re working on? If you have a new idea, tell us how you will do this in the future.
I use my public platform, partnerships and student networks to turn awareness into participation. I regularly share my work and the challenges students face on LinkedIn, where I have built credibility with over 25k followers as a Higher Education creator and was ranked #2 in the Education niche in Nigeria by Favikon. Through this visibility, students from different universities, backgrounds and countries have discovered The Student Growth Hub and become interested in contributing to our work. Some have joined our community, participated in programmes, volunteered, supported initiatives or shared opportunities with others. Our work has directly impacted over 4,000 students through training, mentorship, programmes and opportunity sharing. Through our partnership with Kryptr, we also provide students with access to virtual internship training, helping them gain practical experience and become more career ready. I encourage people to move beyond receiving support. About 18 community members have gone on to start initiatives addressing social challenges and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. Going forward, I plan to develop more student leaders who can mobilise their peers and take our work into their own universities and communities. I want people to not only learn about the problems we address, but become part of solving them.
