Founding Story: What was the spark that led you to start your project? What was the "Aha!" moment that led you to get started and see the potential for this to succeed?
My project started from something I saw around me: many children struggle with their schoolwork and homework, not because they are not capable, but because they do not always have someone available to guide and encourage them. I noticed that some learners lose confidence when they do not understand a subject, and this can affect their motivation and performance. My “Aha!” moment came when I helped children with their schoolwork and saw how their attitude changed when someone took the time to explain things patiently. I realised that I did not need to have a big organisation or many resources to make a difference. I could start with the knowledge and skills I already have and help one learner at a time. That experience made me believe that education can change a child’s future, especially when learners are given support, encouragement and a safe space to ask questions. I decided to start my tutoring project to help children understand their subjects, complete their homework and believe in their own abilities. What began as a simple idea has become a passion for me. My vision is to grow the project so that more children in my community can access academic support and have a better chance to succeed at school
How do you encourage other people to join your project or learn about the problem you’re working on? If you have a new idea, tell us how you will do this in the future.
I encourage people to join Bright Minds by talking to parents, learners and members of my community about the importance of academic support. I explain how many children struggle with homework and difficult subjects and how simple support can improve their confidence and understanding. So far, I have engaged learners, parents and community members who have shown interest in supporting the project. Community volunteers and mobilizers help spread the message, identify learners who need assistance and encourage families to participate. As Bright Minds grows, I plan to use community meetings, word of mouth, schools, social media and local networks to reach more people. I will invite community members who are passionate about education to volunteer their time, skills or resources. I also want to encourage learners who improve through the programme to motivate other learners. By involving the community, I hope to create a shared responsibility for helping children succeed in education.

Impact: How has your project created impact / made a difference so far? Or, if at an early stage, what will impact look like?
Bright Minds is still at an early stage, but I have already seen how academic support can make a difference in learners’ confidence and understanding. So far, I have reached learners in my community by helping them with their schoolwork, homework and difficult subjects. Each learner I support is an opportunity to make a positive difference. The impact I want to create is both academic and personal. I want learners to improve their understanding of their subjects, complete their homework with greater confidence and become more comfortable asking questions when they do not understand something. I also want to encourage learners to believe that their background or challenges do not have to determine their future. As the project grows, I plan to track the number of learners I support, the subjects they need help with, their attendance and their progress over time. I will use this information to understand what is working and where more support is needed. My goal is to reach more learners in my community and eventually support many children through regular tutoring, revision sessions, homework assistance and learning resources. I believe the project will work because it responds to a real need and provides learners with something simple but important: someone who believes in them and is willing to help them learn

The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve? Why does it matter to you and your community?
The problem I am helping to solve is the lack of academic support that many children experience in my community. Some learners struggle with subjects such as Mathematics, English, Natural Sciences and other school subjects because they do not always have someone who can help them understand their work or complete their homework. This problem matters because when learners continuously struggle without support, they can lose confidence, fall behind in class and begin to believe that they are not capable of succeeding. Education plays an important role in creating opportunities for young people, so every child deserves encouragement and support to reach their potential. This issue is personal to me because I believe that helping a child understand something they once found difficult can make a big difference in their future. I want to create a safe and supportive learning environment where children can ask questions without feeling embarrassed, receive help with their homework and improve their understanding of their subjects. Through my project, I want to make learning more accessible in my community, build learners’ confidence and encourage them to take their education seriously. By supporting one learner at a time, I believe we can contribute to a stronger and more educated community.

What’s Next: What are the next steps you plan to take to grow or strengthen your project over the next year? If your project is still in the idea stage, describe the steps you will take over the next three months to launch or begin developing it.
Over the next year, I plan to grow Bright Minds by reaching more learners from Grade 2 to Grade 7 and creating regular tutoring and homework-support sessions. I will recruit more community volunteers and mobilizers to help identify learners who need support, communicate with parents and assist during learning activities. I also plan to develop more revision worksheets, homework activities and learning resources and introduce simple ways of tracking learners’ progress. I will build partnerships with local schools, parents, community organisations and other education-focused groups to help us reach more children and access resources. I also want to strengthen the project by training volunteers, improving our tutoring programme and creating a safe, welcoming learning environment. My goal is to grow Bright Minds into a sustainable community project that can support more learners, involve more community members and help children improve both their academic performance and confidence.
Your Innovation: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there? How is your project new or innovative?
What makes Bright Minds different is that I want to provide more than ordinary homework assistance. My approach focuses on understanding each learner’s individual challenges and explaining difficult concepts in a simple, patient and practical way. I want to create a learning environment where children feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions and learning at their own pace. The project is also designed to be affordable and accessible to families in my community who may not be able to afford expensive tutoring programmes. I am also using simple tools and community resources in a new way by combining tutoring, homework support, revision activities and confidence-building in one programme. As Bright Minds grows, I plan to develop learning materials, practice activities and progress tracking to understand each learner’s improvement. My innovation is not necessarily about inventing new technology; it is about taking the idea of tutoring and making it more personal, community-based and accessible to learners from Grade 2 to Grade 7. I believe that consistent support from someone who understands the learner’s needs can make a meaningful difference.
Your Solution: How are you solving this problem? Share your specific solution.
My solution is to provide affordable and accessible tutoring support for learners in my community through my project, Bright Minds. The project helps learners from Grade 2 to Grade 7 with their school subjects, homework and areas where they are struggling. In practice, learners attend tutoring sessions where I first identify the topics they find difficult. I then explain the work in a simple way, using examples and activities that make it easier to understand. Learners are given an opportunity to ask questions, practise what they have learned and receive guidance with their homework. I also encourage them to develop good study habits, participate actively and believe in their ability to learn. My goal is not only to help learners complete their homework, but to help them understand the work so they can become more independent and confident at school. I want every learner to feel comfortable saying, “I don't understand,” without being ashamed, because that is where learning begins. I am starting by working directly with learners in my community and building the project through word of mouth and community involvement. As the project grows, I would like to reach more learners, involve other tutors and create additional learning resources such as practice worksheets, revision sessions and study materials. Bright Minds is about more than tutoring. It is about creating opportunities for children to improve academically, build confidence and see education as a pathway to a better future. By supporting learners one at a time, I believe we can make a lasting difference in the community.
Your team: What role(s) do your team members play? How do you share leadership with them?
Bright Minds is led by me, with support from community mobilizers and community volunteers. I lead the tutoring, lesson planning and learner support. Community mobilizers help us identify learners who need academic support, connect with parents and promote the project in the community. Community volunteers assist with homework, learning activities and revision sessions. We share ideas, responsibilities and leadership to grow the project together.
