Project Stage
Growth (We’ve moved past the very first activities and are beginning to have consistent weekly or monthly impact)
Founding Story: What was the spark that led you to start your project? What was the "Aha!" moment that led you to get started and see the potential for this to succeed?
I had an interview sometime last year and was asked a question of what I do if I had unlimited resources to impact the world. With some retrospection, it sprang up something I'm so passionate about, which is helping society and improving people's standard of living. It dawned on me that I wanted to create a platform that can connect people who needs help to those who can help. This idea birthed goodcause about 10 months later.
The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve? Why does it matter to you and your community?
Nigeria is a developing country with lots of people screaming for help each day, both verifiable and non verifiable. Popular platforms for fundraising like GoFundMe secluded Nigerians from using their platform meanwhile, Nigeria is one of the countries that needs the help the most. The problem of accessible fundraising is important to me because I’m a first hand benefit of what it feels like to get help and I want to allow others find the help they deserve beyond regional borders.
Your Solution: How are you solving this problem? Share your specific solution.
To solve the problem of financial inclusion, I created goodcause, a web and mobile app that allows users to create fund raising campaigns and recieve donations from within and outside the borders of Nigeria, conveniently. Goodcause is live at goodcause.app and live on Google PlayStore
Impact: How has your project created impact / made a difference so far? Or, if at an early stage, what will impact look like?
So far, I've used it to create a campaign for myself to participate in an international hackathon. I succeeded in raising over $3k for my travel and visa process expenses. I want to replicate this impact and grant people the opportunity to ask for help when they need it most.
Your Innovation: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there? How is your project new or innovative?
Goodcause is focused on Africa audience and works very simply. It also allows international donations easily.
How many people are on your team?
1
Your team: What role(s) do your team members play? How do you share leadership with them?
I would like to have creative who can amplify the impact story of goodcause, partnership team responsoble for identifying verifiable NGOs to help them with fundraising and a publicity team to take goodcause to those who need it the most.
What’s Next: What are the next steps you plan to take to grow or strengthen your project over the next year? If your project is still in the idea stage, describe the steps you will take over the next three months to launch or begin developing it.
I intend devising ways to help fundraisers on the platform to ensure they reach their goals.
How do you encourage other people to join your project or learn about the problem you’re working on? If you have a new idea, tell us how you will do this in the future.
I encourage others to join goodcause by sharing my success story of how personally goodcause helped me raise $3k+ to participate in a hackathon in Finaland.
