For participants under 13, an adult ally (for example, a teacher, youth worker, parent, or mentor) must complete the submission on your behalf. The story itself should be written in the young person’s own words and perspective. The adult’s role is purely administrative, ensuring safeguarding requirements are met and that you are supported through the process. This is simply to make sure we’re following safeguarding best practice and that you’re supported throughout the process by someone who knows your journey.

Title

From Informal Struggle to Organized Opportunity

Tell us your changemaking story.

I grew up observing a contradiction around me. On one side, there were households and small businesses constantly struggling to find reliable electrical services. On the other side, there were many young people—capable, hardworking, and eager—who remained unemployed or trapped in informal, unsafe work with no training or dignity. What moved me to act was seeing how these two problems existed side by side but were never connected in a structured way. Electrical work was treated as informal labor, and young people without money or connections were excluded from proper training and opportunity. I felt this was not just an economic problem, but an issue of dignity and access. I decided to respond by building NEED ELECTRO, a digitally driven electrical services and training initiative. I started small—just a laptop, a phone, and conversations with young people in my community.

How do you hope your story will inspire others?

I hope my story shows that changemaking does not require perfect conditions, big funding, or powerful connections. It starts with noticing what feels unfair, asking why systems work the way they do, and taking responsibility to try something different. I want other young people to believe that even with limited resources, they can create structured solutions to real problems—especially by combining skills, technology, and collaboration. For educators and communities, I hope my journey highlights the power of trusting young people as problem-solvers, not just beneficiaries.

Who else is collaborating with you on this?

This work has been shaped through collaboration with: Young people who joined as trainees and later became service providers Community members and customers who trusted a new model Informal mentors, educators, and peers who supported learning and reflection NEED ELECTRO continues to grow as a collective effort, where young people are not just participants, but co-builders of the solution.

I confirm that all information submitted is accurate and that I have obtained all necessary consents for participation and media use.
