Kinetic Youth
Project Summary: Describe your project in one sentence
Kinetic Youth is an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit that connects students without reliable transportation to vetted drivers, helping them reach school activities, volunteer opportunities, and other commitments. We have completed more than 80 rides during the current school year and are building a safer, more dependable way for students to access opportunities.

Founding Story: What was the spark that led you to start your project? What was the "Aha!" moment that led you to get started and see the potential for this to succeed?

The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve? Why does it matter to you and your community?
Students without reliable transportation can miss more than a single event. They may be unable to stay after school for clubs, attend volunteer activities, participate in academic opportunities, or accept commitments that could help them grow. When transportation is uncertain, students may stop applying for opportunities altogether. This problem matters to me because access to opportunity should not depend entirely on whether a student’s family can provide transportation at a particular time. Schools can offer programs and organizations can offer volunteer positions, but those opportunities are not truly accessible if students cannot reach them safely and consistently. The problem is also difficult because transportation involves trust. Families need to feel comfortable with the people providing rides. Drivers need clear expectations. Students need a process that is dependable rather than improvised each time. Kinetic Youth focuses on that gap: helping students reach opportunities while building a system that takes safety, communication, and reliability seriously.
Your Solution: How are you solving this problem? Share your specific solution.
Kinetic Youth connects students who need transportation with vetted drivers who can help them reach school activities, volunteer opportunities, and other commitments. We coordinate the basic information needed for a ride, including the student’s destination, timing, and transportation need, and work to match that need with an appropriate driver. The program is designed around trust and accountability rather than informal, last-minute arrangements. Drivers are vetted, expectations are communicated clearly, and rides are coordinated so that students and families know what to expect. Kinetic Youth also connects participation with service-hour opportunities through Marcus High School’s National Honor Society, giving students a way to contribute to the solution and earn recognition for their service. The organization has now completed more than 50 rides during the current school year and has been officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. That progress has taught me that the solution is not only providing transportation. It is creating a process that students, families, and drivers are willing to trust and use consistently.
Impact: How has your project created impact / made a difference so far? Or, if at an early stage, what will impact look like?
Kinetic Youth has completed more than 50 rides so far this school year and is officially recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Each ride has helped a student reach a school activity, volunteer opportunity, or other commitment that might have been difficult to access without reliable transportation. The number of rides matters because it shows that Kinetic Youth is functioning beyond the idea stage. Students and drivers are participating in the system, and the organization is meeting a need repeatedly rather than only through a one-time event. Reaching this point has also required us to build trust, coordinate schedules, communicate clearly, and create a process that families and drivers feel comfortable using. The 501(c)(3) recognition gives Kinetic Youth a stronger foundation for continued growth and future partnerships. Our next goal is to expand carefully while maintaining the safety and reliability that make the program useful. I want our impact to be measured not only by the number of rides completed, but also by the opportunities students are able to pursue because transportation is no longer the barrier.
Your Innovation: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there? How is your project new or innovative?
Kinetic Youth’s innovation is its focus on transportation as an access problem, not just a ride problem. Many transportation solutions focus on vehicles, routes, or one-time assistance. Kinetic Youth connects transportation directly to student opportunity by helping students reach school activities, service commitments, and other experiences that can affect their education and development. The program also brings together people who can help one another. Students receive access to opportunities, vetted drivers provide transportation, and participating students can connect service with a practical community need. Instead of treating students without transportation only as recipients of help, Kinetic Youth creates a system in which young people can participate in solving the problem. The organization is different from an informal carpool because it is built around vetting, clear communication, coordination, and accountability. It is also different from a traditional transportation service because its purpose is not simply to move people from one place to another. Its purpose is to make opportunities more reachable. The challenge is maintaining that balance as Kinetic Youth grows: expanding access without sacrificing the trust and reliability on which the program depends.

What’s Next: What are the next steps you plan to take to grow or strengthen your project over the next year? If your project is still in the idea stage, describe the steps you will take over the next three months to launch or begin developing it.
Over the next year, I want Kinetic Youth to expand its reach without losing the reliability that has allowed us to complete more than 50 rides this school year. Our first priority is strengthening the systems behind the program: documenting the ride-coordination process, improving communication with students and drivers, and continuing to review how safety and trust are maintained. I also want to build additional partnerships with schools, student organizations, and community groups that can help identify students who need transportation or connect us with responsible volunteers. As an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3), Kinetic Youth will be better positioned to pursue partnerships and support for continued growth. Finally, I want to use what we have learned from our first 50+ rides to determine where the need is greatest and expand carefully from there. Growth should mean more students reaching meaningful opportunities, not simply a larger number on paper.
How do you encourage other people to join your project or learn about the problem you’re working on? If you have a new idea, tell us how you will do this in the future.
We encourage students to participate by showing that transportation is a shared community problem rather than an individual failure. Students who need rides can access opportunities they might otherwise miss, while students who can provide transportation can contribute in a practical way. Through school connections and National Honor Society service-hour opportunities, we introduce students to both the need and a way to respond. The more than 50 rides completed this school year have helped us explain Kinetic Youth through results. Each ride shows how transportation can affect a student’s ability to participate. We want students to understand that service can begin with noticing a barrier and helping remove it. As Kinetic Youth grows, we plan to share our work through school organizations, community partnerships, and online outreach. Our goal is to bring in more students, drivers, and supporters while keeping the focus on safety, reliability, and access to opportunity.
