Summary

Indonesia is threatened by a loss of local food knowledge coupled with a loss of biodiversity with conversion and pollution of natural spaces and small scale agriculture which is impacting on diets and ecosystems. Massive imports of cheap, highly processed foods compete with local food enterprises and the youth are now more adverse to land cultivation activities. PARARA takes on the challenge to stimulate the transformation of the food industry towards sustainable, healthy local food systems by educating consumers on the planetary importance of local food diets and by connecting farmers, fishers and small food businesses to a wider value chain and by increasing value and capacity. This is both in the capital of Jakarta and across the country.
